|
|
Just some info to share.
Today while testing out the latest kernel for a possible rollout I found
some PC's would not start XAL.
After digging and using DependencyWalker I found that the cxalw32.exe needs
the PC to have the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package
installed (maybe this step is written in some document that I didnt come
across?)
http://www.microsoft.com/Downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=32bc1bee-a3f9-4c13-9c99-220b62a191ee&displaylang=en
Once this is installed then the PC can run XAL client
Thanks

Hello James,
The XAL 3.7.0.199 kernels are an update to the kernels distributed with XAL
3.5 SP5 (3.7.0.174).
In the newsletter there is a paragraph on new dependensies:
"New dependencies - atl80.dll
The introduction of support for Microsoft Office Web Components introduces a
new dependency for the Microsoft XAL kernels. In order for the Microsoft XAL
kernels to start, the DLL atl80.dll must be present in the Microsoft XAL
installation folder. On Windows 2000 systems the alt80.dll must be present
at root level in the Microsoft XAL installation folder. On Windows XP
systems and later the folder Microsoft.VC80.ATL containing atl80.dll and
Microsoft.VC80.ATL.manifest must be present at root level in the Microsoft
XAL installation folder.
The DLLs:
BIVBX30.DLL BIVBX30C.DLL SH22W32.DLL SHW32.DLL
are no longer needed, but can be left in the Microsoft XAL installation
folder without problems."
You might also find other parts of the newsletter interessting.

Thanks Henrik,
Which news letter exactly?
I dont find anything in 'Microsoft XAL 3.5 SP5 Newsletter kernel XAL
3.7.0.199'
I cannot find the original SP5 download on partner source so am guessing it
was in this that the dependency was stated
Would apprecaite if can give me the link (I dont know why my search on
partnersource does not show the latest ODBC or SP5...)
Thanks
James
